IXTAR CURTS

Muestra de cortometrajes Fiestas de Sant Bartomeu

The oldest short film festival in the Balearic Islands has a new format and organization. The Department of Culture of the Sant Antoni de Portmany City Council continues to include it in the Sant Bartomeu Festival program, and the Audience Award and the Jury Award for Best Short Film are still being awarded.

After 25 consecutive years, Incortum has ceased to be responsible for organizing the Sant Bartomeu Festival Short Film Showcase. From now on, the event will continue with a new organization and a new spirit.

The exhibition, now called IXTAR CURTS, is organized by cultural promoter Ramon Mayol (director of the exhibition), along with actress Nuria Santos (coordinator) and actor Ivan Ros (co-director). The latter are also members of the jury, along with actress Àngels Martínez, cultural journalist María Pérez, and actor Luis Ávila.

In addition, thanks to the collaboration with the PlayCine association, the Mostra will offer activities related to the film industry, such as the talk “Let’s Talk About the Craft of Filmmaking,” followed by a discussion led by filmmaker Imanol Uribe, which will take place on Friday, September 5.

Uribe will receive an Honorable Mention at the 2025 edition of the Mostra.

On the other hand, the Portmanian screenwriter and director David Marqués will be named Honorary Godfather of Ixtar Curts.

The organizers assure us that there will be more surprises at this exhibition, which will be announced soon.

The Short Film Showcase has returned to its original location: the North Plaza of the Church of San Antonio. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 6th at 8:00 p.m., with a gala hosted by Pablo Pavón (from Artes Pavón).

Entries must be a maximum of 10 minutes long and can be submitted online at www.ixtar.net from today until August 15. The theme is open to all audiences, and submissions from around the world are welcome, provided they are subtitled in Spanish or Catalan (if the original language is neither of these).

Another important new feature is the screening of a short film about a special geographic location, in this case Rapa Nui (Easter Island), featuring a project by young director Waitiare Kaltenegger Icka, in Rapa Nui with Spanish subtitles. This project was made possible thanks to the collaboration of Ixtar Curts with the Goddess Tanit Ibiza Association, which pays tribute to the goddess Tànit, protector of Ibiza.

The commemorative figures that will be presented on the day of the screenings are the work of artist Elena Abeni, while the Mostra image is the work of artist Gabriel Torres Chalk.
